Term 1 Reflection 2017

This term has gone so fast, it is hard to keep up with. I accomplished so much in Tech Arts, like making a jersey, a soccer ball, making soap and slime. The slime was funny. I wasn't able to achieve one of my goals which was to be part of the student council, but I have still had a fun year. My favorite week was camp for many reasons. We had a week off school, I turned twelve, we learnt a lot, it was a great experience, and I got to see my family down in Wellington. We had three inter-house competitions and my house Mangapiko, won one of them. We won Summer Games. I met a lot of new year sevens and caught up with some old friends that I are now year sevens. It still feels so weird being the year eight now, even though it is nearly term 2. Being a year eight has teached me a whole lot. I know how to sew, I know about particles, atoms, molecules and states of matter to name a few. I have met a whole lot of new people, and I can't wait for term 2. Bring it on.

Week 9 | 2017 | Term 1 | RM3 CLASS CAMP

We departed from school on Sunday, and the ride down was pretty boring. Liam and my phone kept me company though, even though my phone went flat. Wellington was much more fun than the sven hour bus trip.

We went to Parliament, Zealandia, Weta Workshops, Wellington Zoo, Snorkelling at Island Bay, Holocaust Center, Capital E, Space Place, Wellington Museum, Bug Lab at Te Papa, H2O Xtreme, and more. At the campgrounds we were staying at, Wellington Top 10 Holiday Park, in Lower Hutt, there was a jumping mat, a trampoline and a lot of field. My favourite day was Thursday because I turned twelve and got to see my family that lived in Wellington. My favourite activities were Wellington Zoo, Weta, H2O Xtreme and Capital E.

At the zoo I took lots of photos of the animals and walked around the whole zoo. My favourite animal that I saw there was the Tasmanian Devil. I think I saw five of them. I just though that they were so cool, cute and unique. I loved Weta workshops because they made 6 of my favourite movies. The Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings. Weta was just amazing and what they had achieved was just breath-taking. The amount of special effects that are used and how easy it is to make some of the props is mind-blowing. I learnt that there are about 25,000 made arrows scattered around NZ because of LOTR, Lord of the Rings.

H2O Xtreme was just fun because it was just like the pools. I had a lot of fun with my friends. Finally Capital E. In the first session, my group got to design simple android apps in the Media Lab. They were simple but fun. I learnt about an accelerometer. They are what senses the shaking or turning of a phone for some apps. Then we made a movie in ONTV with special effects, wacky costumes and about an hour of rehearsing. I was location manager and location cameraman. I recorded the three reporters. The movie we made was Once upon a Crime.

Those were the real highlights of my camp. Hope you enjoyed reading and really understood what happened, even if it wasn't the best explained.
